The answer is algae with a 819 gallon per acre yield of biodiesel, needing just the space, sunlight and the water to grow algae. Another answer is get some people elected to congress that are smarter than a fence post. MC NY Times March 3, 2008 Editorial Priced Out of the Market The world’s food situation is bleak, and shortsighted policies in the United States and other wealthy countries — which are diverting crops to environmentally dubious biofuels — bear much of the blame.
According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, the price of wheat is more than 80 percent higher than a year ago, and corn prices are up by a quarter. Global cereal stocks have fallen to their lowest level since 1982.
As usual, the brunt is falling disproportionately on the poor. The F.A.O. estimates that the cereal import bill of the neediest countries will increase by a third for the second year in ...

The United States is attempting to repair the damage done in Iraq with the same hammer (the military) it used to destroy it. One needs to look no further than New Orleans to realize that the United States needs a new tool kit.

January 27, 2008 Op-Ed Contributor A President Like My Father By CAROLINE KENNEDY OVER the years, I’ve been deeply moved by the people who’ve told me they wished they could feel inspired and hopeful about America the way people did when my father was president. This sense is even more profound today. That is why I am supporting a presidential candidate in the Democratic primaries, Barack Obama.
My reasons are patriotic, political and personal, and the three are intertwined. All my life, people have told me that my father changed their lives, that they got involved in public service or politics because he asked them to. And the generation he inspired has passed that spirit on to its children. I meet young people who were born long after John F. Kennedy was president, yet who ask me how to live out his ideals.
Sometimes it takes a while to recognize that someone has a special ability to get us to believe in ourselves, to ...

At last night's Republican debate held in Boca Raton, Florida, all the Republicans were asked if the Iraq war was worth all the blood and treasure. With the exception of Ron Paul, they all gave basically the same answer, Saddam was a bad man and McCain went as far as to say that Rumsfeld was the problem or we would have already "won". If we are not good at something, such as nation destruction and rebuilding, no amount of good intentions can make up for that level of incompetence. We still haven't put New Orleans back together and no one is shooting down there. The truth be known, the United States attacked Iraq for the oil resources and that makes us pirates and piss poor ones at that. No amount of revisionist history or lipstick on the Iraq pig is going to make that chapter of American history a success story. I am sure that the dead and maimed, if they could all speak the same language or speak at all would say the best thing for Iraq is for some real peace makers to take the bull by the ho ...

Jimmy Carter's Proposed Energy Policy 1977 |

Primary Sources: The President's Proposed Energy Policy Jimmy Carter delivered this televised speech on April 18, 1977.
Tonight I want to have an unpleasant talk with you about a problem unprecedented in our history. With the exception of preventing war, this is the greatest challenge our country will face during our lifetimes. The energy crisis has not yet overwhelmed us, but it will if we do not act quickly.
It is a problem we will not solve in the next few years, and it is likely to get progressively worse through the rest of this century.
We must not be selfish or timid if we hope to have a decent world for our children and grandchildren.
We simply must balance our demand for energy with our rapidly shrinking resources. By acting now, we can control our future instead of letting the future control us.
Two days from now, I will present my energy proposals to the Congre ...

The Future |

"The future does not belong to those who are content with today, apathetic toward common problems and their fellow man alike, timid and fearful in the face of new ideas and bold projects. Rather it will belong to those who can blend vision, reason and courage in a personal commitment to the ideals and great enterprises of American Society.
"Our future may lie beyond our vision, but it is not completely beyond our control. It is the shaping impulse of America that neither fate nor nature nor the irresistible tides of history, but the work of our own hands, matched to reason and principle that will determine our destiny. There is pride in that, even arrogance, but there is also experience and truth. In any event, it is the only way we can live." Robert F. Kennedy 1966

December 29, 2007
Dear Patriotic American and Fellow Coloradoan:
When I served our country as an Army Ranger in the Viet Nam war, I believed American democracy was worth fighting for. I believed it then, I believe it now. I'm asking you to join this fight and invest in this cause.
Like you, I am alarmed by the crisis in leadership in Washington D.C. The country spoke with a clear message in 2006 but they aren't listening. So, I am running for Congress in Congressional District 6 because it is time to change direction.
These are pivotal, challenging times of crisis. Yet, I see a bright future - if - we are willing to sacrifice and get active in the political process. How about a government that is smarter, more ethical and spends wisely to provide for the common g ...
